Compared to the outgoing model, the chassis components under the 2010 Taurus should deliver sportier ride dynamics. Ford engineers promise more roll stiffness and more responsive steering. Like the MKS, the new Ford uses struts up front and multi-link, fully-independent arrangement in the rear.
The 2010 Ford Taurus SHO will be prepared with the the majority of powerful “EcoBoost” V-6 Ford. The 3.5-liter V-6 gets twin turbochargers to create 365 hp and 350 pound-feet of torque—nearly as much as a V-8 Hyundai Genesis. Direct injection and staged turbocharging provide it versatile power from 1500 to 5500 rpm, Ford says. All-wheel drive and the paddle-shifted six-speed automatic are the only drive-train available. Electric power steering is standard; it remains to be seen whether Ford’s tuning will offer the Taurus SHO great road feel. The SHO suspension is tuned for handling, with stiffer shocks and springs, thicker anti-roll bars and new suspension mounts. Ford will even provide a Performance Package with more durable brake-pad material and re-tuned stability control, together with 20-in. wheels and tires.
Although this new Ford car is a full-size car, the quantity of passenger’s room is still surprising. The adjective “huge” comes to mind. In front the Taurus has nice space for tall drivers, and nice room in back for 6-foot passengers and their knees. This can be a large sedan that looks even bigger when you open the rear doors, a rarity within the class. The most important progress in the new Ford Taurus 2010 is in the standard feel of the interior. The previous edition sported much of the interior space and offered high chairs with great visibility, but had plastics that catered to rental-fleet aesthetics. The surfaces are tighter grained and more and more attractive during this new model, and impressively finished.
