Introduction to Automotive Shop Equipment

The automotive industry is one of the largest centralized industries in the world. The auto industry dates back to as early as 1769. Being in this particular area can be a very lucrative business decision as automobiles have evolved over many years. While the manufacturing of automobiles is continuing to boom, so is the need for more automotive shops to service these vehicles. This article will focus on the introduction of shop equipment such as the different variations of car lifts, and wheel service equipment.

What are car lifts? Well as the question suggestions, it has to do with cars. Well a car is defined as a wheeled motor vehicle for transporting passengers, which also carries its own engine or motor. Lift can be defined as a mechanical force generated by a solid object moving through a fluid. So in short, it is a mechanical equipment that generates force by a solid object moving through a fluid that is able to lift a wheeled motor vehicle or any other object. They are also known as auto lifts, vehicle lifts, automotive lifts, storage lifts, alignment lifts, or car stackers.

These particular kind of lifts can be used by automotive shops to work on vehicles or used by home hobbyist for storage of their cars, or to do repairs in their garage. These auto lifts come in different styles or models, and having different lifting capacities. Lifting capacities can range from 7,000 lbs. to 30,000 lbs., and can range even higher at times. The most popular styles are two post car lifts and four post lifts. As the names suggest, some lifts have two post and some have four post. So depending on what you are using the lift for will help determine which one best suite your needs.

The 2 post lifts are asymmetrical and symmetrical, and need to be installed by anchoring or bolting to your floor. The 4 post lifts do not need to be anchored to your floor. But if there is a constant flow of vehicles on and off the car lifts, anchoring the lift is highly suggested.

In today’s market with the influx of larger wheels and lower profile tires, it has caused the tire changers industry to produce models with additional Pneumatic Bead Pressing arms to properly change many current tire and wheel assemblies. With that said, there are many different models of tire changers ranging from the basic tire changers to the more advanced style units.

Update Your Ride With Pontiac Firebird Body Kits

Pontiac Firebird was manufactured and marketed from 1967 to 2002. It is no longer produced but is still appreciated. It has acquired an iconic status. It debuted as a coupe and a convertible. Five different types of engines, six trim levels, and numerous other options were on offer. Their permutations and combinations greatly raised the number of different types of Firebird on offer. In 1969 its Trans Am model was introduced which became popular. It had better looks and handling and had a more powerful engine. Its second generation was introduced in 1970, but what helped were the two modifications made in 1973. A new hood was designed and its engine was altered to be more like a racing car engine. A Special Edition Trans Am introduced in 1976 became the best known Firebird. In 1977 the car made an appearance in the popular film Smokey and the Bandit which added to its popularity. Its third generation lasted from 1982 to 1992 and the fourth and the last from 1993 to 2002. In 1994 a special 25th anniversary Trans Am was also marketed. Overtime, more and more Pontiac Firebirds where showing up in car enthusiast home garages on their storage lifts or better known as car lifts.

The car is no longer manufactured and new models are not coming out. You may get weary seeing the same car and wish for a change. There is a way out; Firebird body kits can give it a new look and feel. For most of the car owners a new look is not the sole and ultimate objective. They want an exclusive look which onlookers can identify with them. It is possible to give such a look as body kits are marketed in numerous designs and styles. It can be managed that no two Firebirds of the same make and model will look alike. The customization can be done with the proper automotive equipment, and parts such as car lifts.

Customizing your Pontiac Firebird entails doing something else that no one else is doing. You can look into changing the color, body style, rims, grille, headlights, tail lights, installing body kits, or even adding a spoiler to your ride. These are a few things that you can do to your new Firebird to give it a more custom look. A look that will have others wondering what you are driving, and turning heads when riding down the block. Your new look will speak style, grace, and a uniqueness that will have onlookers breathless. Pontiac Firebird body kits are the change you are looking for your new Pontiac.

The multiplicity of designs may make the selection of aftermarket body kits a bit confusing and time consuming. You need not be deterred. There are several websites which give useful information about body kits. Everyone can get body kits installed by professional automotive shops equipped with car lifts. Even the owners whose cars are already quite stylish can benefit from this. Therefore body kits are available for such cars as well such as 350Z body kits. You can know there about the material used in making body kits, its advantages and disadvantages and you can see various designs that are available as also their comparative prices. You can easily select them online.

What To Do To Save Big At Federal Auto Auctions

A federal auto auction is a great source of used government cars and lawfully seized vehicles. You can make huge savings - up to 95% off the market price at these auctions. The used cars tend to be just two or three years old. Impounded cars are more diverse and can range from the lower end to the luxurious end of the market. You may find at many government auctions that additional goods ranging from real estate and yachts to jewelry and unclaimed cash are also auctioned. If you are shopping for a great car on a budget, you will be able to get just what you want, if you take the right approach.

To start off with, you do need to find out where these auctions are taking place. Members of the public are free to attend these auctions. Unfortunately, they are not well advertised and they can be difficult to find. There are online services that supply you with comprehensive auction listings in your area.

It is best to do some groundwork before going to an auction. The goal of the majority of professional buyers it to make sure they get the car they want at the very best price. Without some preparation, you will find yourself wandering around the auction not knowing what to do and you will miss opportunities. Before auction day, try to get a list of the cars that will be sold on the day. Narrow the list down to the vehicles that you are interested in buying. Find out the market prices of the cars you are interested in. You might also run a vehicle check, if you have any issues about the history of the vehicle.

If you are interested in a seized vehicle and like me, you are not really familiar with the inner workings of a car, it is normally worthwhile asking a friend or somebody knowledgeable about cars to attend the auction with you. They can make certain everything is in order with the vehicle. A government used car will typically be sold with stamped log books and a full service history.

If you go to a federal auto auction, you are certain to find a really low cost car. With a $100 dollar opening bid at a lot of of these auctions, you can’t go wrong. To get the best deal at these auctions you really need some insider knowledge. The best source of this type of information, is online service providers. This type of service will provide you with all the resources that you need to get the best savings possible.

Ways To Save Money With A Diesel Powered Car

Owning a diesel car can help you save a lot of money on fuel as fuel prices are currently high. Automotive shops are seeing an increase in the amount of diesel powered vehicles on their car lifts in recent years. Due to the ever increasing rise in gas prices, the demand for fuel efficient cars is at a parallel and increasing. As a diesel engine saves up to one third fuels per mile than gas powered engines, it is considered to be very fuel efficient. It uses higher compression ratios and combustion temperatures. Though diesel is a non renewable source and releases carbon dioxide into the air, it does so at a much less threatening and harmful rate compared to gas.

Diesel cars are more efficient in terms of the average miles they give per gallon of fuel. You can save more money on fuel with a diesel car, by following some simple tips that will make driving a diesel powered car more fuel efficient. These tips are the same tips that can be used when driving any gas or diesel powered vehicle.

Regular maintenance can also help with saving fuel as mechanics keep your vehicle up to specs utilizing car lifts to do the work. Car Lifts make working on autos much easier and more efficient, no matter the type of vehicle.

Diesel cars can save you money, if driven carefully taking care in consideration your speed. Driving faster generates more power, using more fuel. You can save a considerably large amount by slowing down a few miles an hour. You can keep your speed at the posted limit, while driving on the motorways thereby saving about 20% of diesel.

If you keep your car moving without having to stop, you can save diesel, which in turn saves you some money on fuel. Driving in congested traffic or starting and stopping the car very often while driving will end up in using more diesel than that spent by staying in steady motion. You can try to find out some alternate routes to aid in saving fuel.

Air conditioners in the diesel cars use a lot of power. If you turn the AC unit on, it causes the power to get diverted to the compressor for emitting the cold air into the car. Diesel engines need to work harder in order to compensate the power that was lost. Hence, more amount of diesel is used to keep the speed of the car up. It is therefore advisable to turn the air conditioner off, whenever possible.

One simple way to save money on fuel with a diesel car is to keep the tank full. Running the car with less fuel can shorten the life of the fuel pump and running on empty can destroy the pump. Moreover, filling the tank full saves the time and money you need to spend on traveling to the station several times.

If your car is too heavy, the engine needs to work harder to move the vehicle. You can reduce unnecessary weight in your car and save money on fuel.

Buying Different Model Four Wheel Drive

There was a time when the four wheel drive market was restricted to rugged, no-thrills vehicles with little or no creature comforts aimed almost exclusively at outdoor adventurers, hunters and farmers. Not anymore. The Range Rover, Toyota Landcruiser. Mitsubishi Pajero and Nissan Patrol have all brought the four wheel drive market into the realms of luxury motoring. And over the past few years, even more luxurious models have hit the Australian market, with Porsche, BMW, Mercedes Benz and Volkswagen all introducing their own line of prestige four wheel drive vehicles. Here we look at some of these blueblood four wheel drives. Drive with care as not to have your vehicle in a repair shop on car lifts or auto lifts.

The BMW X3 and X5
BMW was one of the first of the luxury marques to introduce its version of the off-road vehicle into the Australian market with the X5. The BMW X5 is a stylish four wheel drive vehicle, which is exactly what you’d expect from the German carmaker. While it’s a four wheel drive, BMW doesn’t pretend that this is for the serious off-roader. Instead, they point out its very impressive on-road capabilities including its quick acceleration and smooth ride. The BMW X5 is available in 3 litre petrol and diesel versions, a 4.4 litre, and the top of the line 4.9 litre model. There’s also the smaller and less expensive X3 with a 2.5 litre or 3 litre 5 door wagon. New car prices for the BMW X3 start from around $65,000 while the BMW X5 starts from around $81,000.

If looking for a used car, check for any signs of damage from off-roading. As most are strictly city cars, you’ll be best buying one that has never left the tar. Also, look for a car that still has a warranty, as BMWs can prove expensive to fix.

The M-Class Mercedes Benz
The Mercedes Benz M-Class has been a success story in Australia thanks to its ability both on and off the road. Of course, the prestige of owning a Mercedes Benz also helps with this vehicle’s popularity. The M-Class comes in both petrol and diesel engines. The ML270 CDI Classic turbo diesel has plenty of torque at low revs making it a good proposition for going off road. However, at around $75,000 brand new, you’ll want to make sure that you don’t get too many scratches from overhanging branches. At the other end of the spectrum is the ML55 AMG 5.4 litre five door wagon, which will cost you a little more than $140,000. At this price, you’ll probably want to keep this one firmly on the tar.

If looking for a used car, buy one from 2000 onwards as earlier models had some problems. Also, go for a newer model that is still covered by warranty

Porsche Cayenne
For Porsche to jump onto the four wheel drive bandwagon, you know that it must be a market that cannot be ignored. Long regarded as a purebred German sports carmaker, Porsche has produced what is arguably the fastest four wheel drive on Australian roads with the Cayenne. It will comfortably cruise at more than 200 km/h thanks to the 4.5 litre V8 engine. There are two models available: the Cayenne S, priced new at around $137,000 and the Cayenne Turbo which will set you back around $204,000. If you can’t afford this price tag, perhaps look at the VW Touareg.

Volkswagen Touareg
If the Porsche Cayenne is just a little out of your price range, then perhaps you should consider this VW off-roader. In fact, the Touareg was designed in conjunction with the Cayenne, so there will be more than a few similarities between these two prestige vehicles. The Touareg can also reach the 200 km/h mark on the highway, and it’s off road capabilities are assisted by its electronic traction aids. With plenty of room inside, it can fit three adults across the back seat, the Touareg may just be the right car to impress your friends with in the bush. Prices for new cars range from around $67,000 to $138,000 for the V10 5 litre model. If looking for a good used car, go for a one owner that is still covered by warranty, and check for any off-road damage, although like most of these prestige four wheel drives, most have probably never seen the dirt.
